Xiaomi, the world’s largest tech startup, launched the second generation of their television range in 2014, the Mi TV 2 which took the market by storm as their other products do.
The Mi TV, priced at CNY 3,999 or Rs 40000 ($625 approx), is a smart television with 4k video capabilities and a 47-inch screen. Famous TV brands such as Samsung and LG usually release television screens with such specifications around the price range of Rs 1,00,000 and above.
Xiaomi managed to capture the sight of many but the excitement was short-lived as they sold it exclusively in Mainland China and some parts of Taiwan and Hong Kong. Most importers were faced with huge import costs due to custom regulations.
This limited access is now about to cease as they plan to release their newest addition, the Mi TV 2 in the Indian market by the Diwali season of 2015.
At the launch of the Xiaomi Mi4 event held in New Delhi, Xiaomi Global VP and ex-Googler, Hugo Barra, had promised to the press that there is no certain timeframe regarding the launch but it is certain that the Mi TV and Note Pro would get released before Diwali of this year.
The pricing wasn’t released but our sources suggest it would be around the 50000 rupee mark keeping in mind cost devaluation and custom charges.
Diwali is the biggest festival in India and also referred to as the ‘Christmas of India’. The month before the festival witnesses high demand of shopping especially for electronic products such as smartphones and television sets.
Xiaomi might be planning to raid that season by releasing a superbly powerful TV at an even astonishing price to pull in some demand from the other market leaders including Samsung and Sony.
